State of the Philippine Blogosphere

The last of the major blogging events for this year was the BlogFest Soccsksargen held at General Santos City on December 11, 2010. It was successfully organized by the Sox Bloggers in only 3 weeks. Avel Manansala gave me the task of opening the BlogFest with a talk on the "State of the Philippine Blogosphere." I had a hard time gathering my thoughts and inputs while I made my presentation. I depended on Ratified data and the input of many Filipino bloggers before I finalized my talk. Here is the slide show presentation that accompanied my talk: State of the Philippine BlogosphereView more presentations from Avatar Media. I divided my talk into three parts focusing on current trends, the development of blogging communities, and the landmark blogging events of 2010. 30 minutes is definitely not enough to summarize how vibrant and controversial the Philippine Blogosphere has been in 2010. I refused to focus on the controversies and divisive issues and highlighted the best moments of the Filipino bloggers and Philippine blogs. Surprisingly, the theme of my talk coincided with the theme of the Philippine Blog Awards 2010, which is "Beyond Blogging." Most of the other speakers during BlogFest also emphasized…

My PBA 2008 Thank You Speech

Last year, I was nominated for several categories, but wasn't even a finalist in any. I told myself, I'd be a finalist this year. And quickly forgot about that goal. But lo and behold, this year, three of my blogs were finalists for various categories. One blog which I am part owner of was also a finalist, and was, in fact, up against my other blog. Six of my posts were also finalists. I submitted entries for two sponsor awards. That give me around 12 chances to win. But I didn't win. NADA! Nonetheless, I would like to thank the following people: my cousins Kuya Andrew who helped me get started in blogging, and who continues to help me with the technical stuff, and Gwing who has taken over one of my blogs; Ate Aileen who inspires me to be a better blogger and person; Tita Janette who gave me the chance to be an iBlog speaker; MLQ3 and the Filipino Voices bloggers who inspire me to be a more responsible and conscientious political blogger Avatar Media colleagues Migs, Winston, and Blogie; all my blog readers, friends, mga ka-link exchange, fans, followers, flamers, and HATERS who give me a good…

It's An Honor, Thank You!

{I might be busy this weekend so I am posting this early.} Two of my blogs are now finalists for the Philippine Blog Awards 2008. My DotAStrategy Blog is a finalist in the Hobby and Recreation category. And Chikadora, despite what critics say, is a finalist in the Entertainment category. I have browsed through some of the other contenders and I am proud to be one of them, and even prouder that somebody considered my blogs worthy of their time by nominating it. Moreover, this blog, Life with Ria is eligible to be a finalist and maybe win (but I am not counting on it) in the Personal category. I have two other blogs that were nominated, but I am not expecting any more than I have already received. I am happy to have at least one blog being a finalist. Being nominated is an achievement in itself. A nomination, IMHO, means there is at least one person out there happy with the work I have done, and that to me is already an achievement. So thank you! Congratulations to all the other nominees and finalists! And an extra special congratulations to the winners, whoever they are! Congratulations also to…

Gwing's Pasalubong

Yesterday, while I was frolicking through the Butterfly House, a friend sent me an SMS telling me that Gwing wants me to go online so we could chat. But I couldn't... friend then sent me this message: "I know you're going to like my pasalubong." -Gwing Ano kaya yun? Hmmm... Today, Gwing and I got to chat... and her only clue was "It might have been featured on ShopChicks." HUWHAT?! We have hundreds of posts there... I know because I was the blog's main blogger and now the editor. :( We have posts on clothes, make-ups, shoes, bags, accessories, cute things, and even home stuff. ANO DUN?! ANOOO?!
