Anti-Valentines Movie Marathon Playlist

I was mulling making several anti-Valentine's posts. The first of which is a playlist of sorta angry and bitter movies for the single ladies (and gentlemen). I listed down movies. Drafted several other movie playlists and I ended up with this: my Anti-Valentines Movie Marathon Playlist. Not necessarily for single ladies. Definitely not just for the sad and bitter. But for anybody who simply wants to enjoy a good movie marathon. I have watched most of these more than once in the past. And majority of these I have re-watched in the past few weeks just to be sure these movies fit into what I consider as "Anti-Valentines Movies." What is an Anti-Valentines Movie Marathon? Most of these are my favorites. Other than me loving each one, I carefully chose every movie to make sure it fits my anti-Valentine's sentiments. First, most of the movies in my list are female-driven or have female leads. Cate Blanchett in Elizabeth I (1993)Screengrab from Hollywood Reporter: LINK Second, these films do not have romance or romantic relationships as a major plot point. Mind you, the leads are not necessarily loveless or single . Just that their love relationships are not at the center…

Entering Jurassic Park

A few days ago, I posted this on my Ria Jose Facebook Page: I created the post in celebration of #ScienceFictionDay. But it also gave me soooo many memories. As far as I can remember, Jurassic Park was the film that piqued my interest in the sci-fi genre. First Cinema Experience Interestingly, my first memory of watching a film in the cinema was another sci-fi film. All I remember was it was a King Kong film and the first scene I remember was King Kong in a some sort of hospital bed or operating table. Via Google Search, I recently found out that this movie was "King Kong Lives." King Kong Lives Movie Poster According to Wikipedia, it was released in 1986. I was around 4 years old in 1986 but I am not too sure if the film was released in our city on the same year or if my memory is accurate. I did enjoy that movie and many other sci-fi movies like ET, Batteries Not Included, Back to the Future, and even Robocop. But I was not particularly attached or fascinated by these films. Entering Jurassic Park Sometime in the early 1990s, I saw the trailer for…

Oro by Alvin Yapan [MMFF 2016]

I'm not a movie reviewer but I think it would be a great disservice to everybody if I don't promote this film. I went inside the cinema with high expectations. After all, Sir Alvin Yapan is one of my most favorite professors of all time. And for the first time, one of his films is showing in local cinemas. So yey! Oro, Dugo ang Kinang ng Ginto Kahit na sobrang taas ng expectations ko, I was blown away and greatly overwhelmed by Oro. Ang ganda ng storya. Thought-provoking and cringe-inducing siya. Nakakalungkot at nakakagalit. At lalo akong naiinis kapag naalala kong based on true events ang kwento. 😭 Ang galing ng actors. Iba! They deserve the Best Ensemble Award. At siyempre, Irma Adlawan IS Irma Adlawan. Subtle pero powerful. Sobrang saludo ako kay Kapitana, both the character and the real life Kapitana. Mabuhay kayo!

The Achy Breaky Hearts

'Di ako masyadong iyaking kapag nanonood ng mga pelikula. Pero yung "The Achy Breaky Hearts," hindi pa lumalabas yung title card naluha na ako. Pak na pak ang intro. #ICanRelate sa linyang ito... "Hindi naman sa kailangan na may kasama umuwi, kumain o matulog. Masarap lang din siguro kung meron. Di ba?" - The Achy Breaky Hearts BOOM! PAK! GANERN! The film shows us how we can be happy being single yet still yearn for something more.

Black Swan

I was attracted to this trailer by the promise of a kiss between Natalie Portman and Mila Kunis. They do kiss at around 1:25 but there so much more to this film I think. The film is Black Swan. Seems like a very good art film. Locking Lips With 'Black Swan' Trailer - Watch more horror Seems like a really good film. I don't quite get if Mila Kunis is a psycho chick but I find the dynamics between protagonist Natalie Portman and Kunis to be very interesting. And the story is set amidst the beautiful but competitive scenery of ballet. Hope I get to watch this. :)

Things I Learned from Watching 21

I watched 21 with my cousins last Saturday. I was ok, nothing spectacular. I was annoyed by the love angle. Bah! Anyway, here are some things I learned while watching 21: Jim Sturgess eeez hot especially when he plays a geeky guy. (Note to self: Must watch Across the Universe!) Even if I do legal things, I can get the shit kicked out of me by goons. Even if I study/teach at THE MIT, I can be stupid by using OBVIOUS gestures and signals and think I will not get caught. There are smart hawt girls (represented by Kate Bosworth who was annoying in the movie). Hi-tech biometric devices cannot kick people's asses... or can it? I went to the wrong geek school. I should have gone to MIT where people are hot!!! I am geekier than most people. YUN LANG! PS I did not plagiarize or steal these ideas or words. PPSS I am not a plagiarizer.
