Thank You and Good Bye 2010!

Dear 2010, It has been a bittersweet love hate affair between you and I. The heartaches, the illness, work-related stress, and the personal struggles were equally matched with victories, awards, career opportunities, newfound friends, and another chance at life. Thank you! It has been a life-changing year. The world really does have a way of making things go right or wrong to shake us and make us realize things. I would like to think that 2010 made me stronger, wiser, and better. Also bigger. Literally. I vow to change that in 2011. Figuratively, I guess I've done even better than I expected, as a blogger, as a writer, and as a person. To all the people who made me laugh, who caused me grief, who helped me achieve victories, or contributed to my pains, salamat! To Mommy and Daddy, to the Joses and the Abellas, and to my other relatives, thank you for being there! Always. To my friends from grade school, high school, college, culinary school thank you for keeping in touch and for always reminding me of who I was and who I should be! To my DotA and kubo friends, thank you for always making me laugh…

Diyosa and Ganda Ever So Much

I don't remember exactly when I first heard about Orman Manansala, but I think I met him for the first time during the Avatar Media Practical Photojournalism Workshop. We didn't talk much but I remember him to be a jolly person, very personable. The second time I met him was during his visit to Davao last December 2009 which coincided with Mica Rodriguez's visit to Davao. It was during this visit that Orman invited me and the other Avatar Media members to cover and participate during the General Santos City Kalilangan Festival 2010. It was during this five day trip to General Santos City that I experienced how much of a great person Orman is. For one, he is a damn good host. Even if he was very busy as Festival Director, he managed to take very good care of us and even accompanied us to most of our trips and stops during the five day trip. Going above and beyond his duty as Festival Director and host, Orman fed us, gave us shelter, and entertained us to the hilt during those five days. He even managed to introduce us to some *ehem* boys to keep me company during my…

Mica and Ria

Happy Birthday Mica!

Hi there Micaela "Mica" Rodriguez! I am wishing you a happy, happy, happy birthday! You and I are the same. I was once where you are now. Just work hard, love earnestly, be kind and the world will smile on you. And while you might not always get what you want, need, or deserve... believe me there is no other way to live your life other than to be kind, sincere, and generous. It might not always yield for you what you expect, but it will give you a kind of fulfillment that no other kind of life will give. Do not expect people or the world to act the way you want them to. The world will not always bend to what you want or need. Adjust, learn to accept and let go. Do not always seek or pine for romantic love because that will make you ignore or forget that there is so much love around you from your family, friends, colleagues, and the other people around you. Romantic love will come at a time when you are ready to face its beauty and its pains. Treasure the people who nurture you to be the best that you…

A Close Encounter with the Ex

Last Sunday, the most important tournament in my poker life was going to take place. Imagine working hard for and anticipating a tournament for three months. It was supposed to be intense and stressful. Surprisingly, I was calm and relaxed. Until... I saw my ex walk in. GAAAAH! Let's call him ex-R. We have had an agreement that he would try to inform me everytime he would go someplace I would probably be in and I would do the same. Needless to say, his early evening visit to the poker club came without a warning. He only visited the poker club on early evenings when we dated. More surprisingly, his gf was not with him. GAAAAH! WHY?! WHY?! WHY?! So I became distracted and as poker players would say, I was on tilt. We are friends, my ex and I. In fact, we would sometimes send SMS to each other to ask or consult about work-related stuff. But, I was caught off-guard. And yes, I was shocked by how much I was affected by his presence. You know what was even more disturbing? He was seated and played beside another guy I dated whom we shall refer to as ex-A.…

An Open Letter to the One Who Loves My Friend

This one is for the guy who has finally captured the heart of my fab friend Kring aka FunnySexy... Dear you, It is quite obvious that Kring has fallen in love with you. I have not yet. This is a warning my dear boy... A lot of people love Kring dearly and I am one of those people. So please do take care of her and do not make her cry. Else you will suffer the wrath of throngs and I mean throngs of people including her family, relatives, friends, blog readers, and fangirls. Kring is a fabulous, nice, talented, beautiful person and she deserves to be happy. Make her happy. Take care of her and love her sincerely and faithfully. Do not add to her stress. Inspire her to help her become the most kick-ass person she can be. Otherwise... JOGULE! (Yes, I know a bit of Koryan... and a whole lot of Tae Kwan Do!) I am watching you. Yours truly, Ria Jose Photo courtesy of Chatee Lara.
