So, You’re Not a Professional Eh?

I have often been asked why I consider myself as a professional blogger. They think I’ve become a millionaire from my blogs. Errr… SO NOT TRUE! My earnings are just enough to keep my blogs running.

So why do I call myself a professional blogger? I consider myself a professional blogger because of the discipline, level of dedication and commitment I have for blogging. And yes, because I oblige myself to blog well and properly.

I believe you do not become a professional blogger by virtue of the amount of money you earn from blogging. Professionalism is in the way you conduct yourself and the amount of work you put into whatever it is you are doing.

There is nothing wrong with not being a professional blogger. If you don’t want to be or to be known as a “professional blogger,” then by all means do as you please, blog as you want. A blog is what you make of it. That’s the beauty of blogging. You are free to express yourself, blog about whatever you want to blog. And yes, even blog as recklessly as you want. And you probably won’t get punished for it.

I don’t have any problems with that. Bash. By all means, rant and whine. Complain til you run out of harsh words.

But do not, I repeat, DO NOT ever tell people or make people assume that you represent other bloggers or the blogging community. Stop saying “This is what a blog is. This is what a blogger does.” Rather, say “This is who I am and how I blog.” Don’t say “I’ll show them what a blogger is,” and proceed to blog on your own terms.

If you want to show the world who you are and what you want to say or blog about, own it. Don’t carry or bring down an entire community of hard-working bloggers with you if you do act or blog unprofessionally. Don’t make sweeping statements about bloggers. Don’t threaten organizers or companies that bloggers act a certain way or react to situations in a certain way.

We’re all different, yes? You should learn to own your own actions and not try to get away with it with the reason that you are a blogger. Blogging isn’t that far out from being human. When you do something, own it. Don’t hide under a label.

  1. If you don’t consider yourself a professional and don’t act like a professional, aba eh… you don’t deserve to be treated as a professional. DIBA?!

  2. Parang may pinaghuhugutan ito ah. Haha. Hi Ria. I think I’ve been here before hmm about your post on Pisay a year or so ago. :p

By the way, regards daw from your old friend, Emerson. He’s now my work mate here in Batangas. 😉

  3. @Bogcess, I guess if you work hard and produce quality blog posts, you are a pro.

@reyjr, I don’t write or speak pag walang pinaghuhugutan. 🙂 Hi din sa kanya! 🙂

  4. Haha. I thought so. One blogger in particular?

I’m thinking though, by saying what this special blogger should say or not say, aren’t we also infringing on his freedom of speech?

Who decides what is right and what is wrong in the blogosphere? With the lack of governance, does it default to popular opinion?

Hala, I think I used up all my brain cells thinking about this. Hahaha! Moving on now…

Emer says hello. I’ll try to get him to comment on here. heheh!

  5. I’m not saying bloggers should act a certain way or only blog a certain manner. If you do something, own it. Don’t hide behind the image of being a blogger.

Eg If you bitch on your blog, own the bitchiness. Do not say, “THIS IS WHAT A BLOGGER IS” as if you represent what all bloggers are. Then, make people think all bloggers are bitchy and petty. Then, when people call you out, don’t say you’re not a professional. ANO BA TALAGA?!

    Gets?

  6. Ahahaha. Gets.

Whoever this secret blogger is, I hope he/she/it changes his/her/its ways – or just change his/her/its blog theme to “Wildly Confused Flip-flopping Blogs with No Conviction Whatsoever”.

    tee hee.

  7. You are so right Ria. There’s no misnomer being a professional blogger when you are passionate about blogging.

You are a force in Mindanao blogging community so being a professional blogger should be tagged on you.

It is an honor to have met you personally at Cebu Blog Camp.

    Have a blessed day!
