Goya Dark Mint Chocolates and More Goya!

Everybody first heard about Goya Dark Mint when AJ twitted about it a few weeks ago and also blogged about. Thus, began the bloggers’ search for the mysterious Goya Dark Mint.

Goya Dark Mint

Goya Dark Mint intrigued a lot of us since Goya is a local brand of chocolates and local dark chocolates with mint are unheard of. The Philippines isn’t exactly known for high end chocolates. What were used to are local chocolates with a distinct flavor and texture that tastes better when not refrigerated.

Goya is a brand I grew up with. I have recently seen and tasted the latest reformulated and repackaged good old Goya Milk Chocolate…

…and it didn’t disappoint. Compared to the old Goya, it had a smoother texture. I can’t exactly recall how the old Goya tastes, but this one is gave me a good chocolate fix for only PhP 14.75!

Then, I saw they had a new variant… Dark Chocolate! As a dark chocolate lover… I just had to try it out.

It’s not as bitter or intoxicating as other dark chocolates I’ve tasted, but it’s good enough. It packs in enough punch to give me a sugar rush. And it’s only PhP 16.75!

Goya also now has more high end flavors such as White Chocolate, Almond and Raisins in Milk Chocolate, Almonds in Milk Chocolate, and Cookies and Cream. Among which, I’ve only tried the Almonds and Milk Chocolate. And I like it. Each costs PhP 14.75 – PhP 16.10.

But the most popular and intriguing of the lot are the boxed chocolates… the Black and White and the Dark Mint which are labeled for export. The boxes say that the chocolates are manufactured under license from Delfi Chocolate Manufacturing and distributed in Australia, Indonesia, Malaysia, and Singapore.

I love dark chocolate and I would like to marry mint… LOL!

Anyhoo… Goya Dark Mint is very, very good. Despite the hype and the high expectations, I was not underwhelmed. It had a smooth texture, and the right blend of bitterness and minty goodness. It wasn’t melted even if the store didn’t refrigerate it.

If you like chocolates, you must definitely try this! It’s only PhP 25.05 here in Davao City but I heard it’s a bit more expensive in some stores in Metro Manila.

I think it’s a good pasalubong idea for Pinoys abroad. Chocolates from the Philippines… for a change. 😉

  1. @micamyx – I therefore conclude… people love Goya! 😀

@Fritz – Want me to send you a box straight from Davao? LOL!

  2. Ria:

Never had ’em… I want to get one of ’em boxes!

Local “dark chocolates” with mint (note the quotation marks, haha) are not entirely new in the Philippines. Chocomint candy is a two-peso chocolate (or should I say chocolate-like substance) with “mint” in it. And then there are those mint candies that have “chocolate” inside. 😀

    Peace!

    Marck

  3. I was also preparing myself to be underwhelmed (because that’s usually the case when I’m hit with an overhyped whatever). But lo and behold, it didn’t disappoint.

Hehe, who was I kidding though? I bought 4 boxes (Oo, sa NCX, like you told me, lol. Doon na tuloy ako nakapag-grocery, haha.). And breathed in like 2 boxes, almost sunod2x. The other 2 were for my friends for taste test purposes.

My heart was beating rapidly because I downed in so much chocolate, napagod tuloy gumawa ng vlog sana, lol.

  4. @Marck – I forgot about the local Mint candies with Choco inside. I looove those. I shall look for it and blog about it soon. What’s chocomint? SAMPLE PLEASE! I WANT!

@Helga – Goya is bad… it’s delicious and cheap… ergo, bad for the hips and the waistline.

    @Angela – YUMMY! I devoured one box only. 😛

  5. I want to kick myself for not hoarding like what angela did. Rapsa these choclitz. Sa Mini Stop, P34 per box. Overpriced ampucha!

  6. @totaltranformation – Do watch out for it… it’s YUMMEH!

@Fritz – Dami pa dun sa NCX which is a few meters from our office. Hehe… NOT GOOD AT ALL!

  7. lol goya fan din aq! wahaha……matagal q na natikman itong dark w/ mint nila…lol na adik din aq! haha….pero masarap din ung dark with almonds nila…u should try it….:P

go ahead guys enjoy the taste, there are still upcoming products to indulged with…

  11. thanx for the mail.
definitely delfi marketing inc (goya) will be bringing up exciting new products to tickle your taste buds.
just watch out for it on display shelves…

  12. i think you should make pure almond choco and not mixed with raisins. i love the almonds on the almond and raisins. please make all almonds

  13. paborito ko yung goya na white chocolate, lumalaban siya sa lasa ng mga imported brands! i tasted it side by side with lotte & meiji, halos pareho ang lasa and much sweeter ang goya natin kaya kahit maliit lang ang kagat mo, malalasahan mo agad

  14. what are the diffence about goya chocolates from the other imported chocolates like from States?

  15. Hmmm, that was interesting. Looks like somethings will always remain mystery.

I myself has been trying to solve the mystery of the legend that forces you to have “earn it before

having it”, for a wile now. Could not understand much though.

Let me know in case you get to understand the mystery of the Old Hound and the Legend

By the way, good writing style. I’d love to read more on similar topics

  16. Why im hooked with Goya? Its my favorite when i was a kid. We went on a field trip to their factory during my grade school days and i can still remember the wafer machine and the heavenly smell of chocolate. What is the deciding factor is the price @ P16.00 dark chocolate. Great taste at reasonable price. I rather chose the wrapper package than the box package its much cheaper.
