Why Travel?

Our physical body both allows us to experience the world. At the same time, it also limits our experience of the world. In this connected world that we live in, we can learn and experience the world through other people’s words, photos, videos, and stories. We can virtually experience the world at our own homes.

However, travelling and actually experiencing other places is still an experience that one should always crave for. Much as I love Davao City, I also love going to other places. Why? Because it is an opportunity to try and learn unique things, experience exciting adventures, eat exotic food, meet new people, gain fresh perspectives, and grow as a person

I believe that one of life’s goals is to learn in order to grow. And travelling is one way of achieving this goal. By travelling, your senses as assaulted by a multitude of sights, sounds, smells, tastes, and textures that enrich your mind and add to your data bank of knowledge. With these, one’s appreciation of things, food, artifacts, and places is broadened and enriched. Through these sensations experience by our body, our minds are broadened, our soul is enriched.

Travelling also exposes a person a wealth of knowledge that can be intellectual or philosophical that further enhances the experiences of the senses. Meeting new people, experiencing unique cultures and traditions, and observing things that are beyond one’s comfort zone do not just contribute to a person’s happiness, but more so to his moral, spiritual, and emotional growth.

With the accumulation of new experiences and exposure to various things, a person not just collects memories but also lessons which hopefully contribute to his growth as a person. With the body and the self’s experience of new places, things, and people, the mind, the soul, and the self are given the opportunity to grow and develop.

This is why travelling is one of the things I aspire for. And as a Filipino, I am interested in my own home and would like to have more Philippine travels. The more I read about other people’s trips and experiences around our 7,107 islands (7,106 during high tide), the more I’d like to experience the various cultures, dishes and delicacies, adventures, views, and unique destinations of our beloved Philippines.

An archipelago, our country boasts of unique terrain, biodiversity, geography, cultures, traditions, food, and features that vary from one another as you go from one island to another. Even within an island, such as my own Mindanao, there are many interesting views, adventures, food, and people to be seen, experienced, appreciated, and to learn from.

I have already traveled to some parts of our country in the past, but I would like to experience more of it in the coming days, months, and years. Hopefully, I will be able to add to my albums, stories, growth more as I journey through the Philippines and other places.

Need to get healthy, save up, and get more adventurous. Not just for the happy memories, but more so for personal growth. 😉

This is my entry to the Let’s Go Sago! anniversary blogging contest.
